Facebook turns to artificial intelligence to tackle suicides

  • Facebook plans to use artificial intelligence and update its tools and services to help prevent suicides among its users. The world’s largest social media network said it plans to integrate its existing suicide prevention tools for Facebook posts into its live-streaming feature, Facebook Live, and its Messenger service.Artificial intelligence will be used to help spot users with suicidal tendencies, the company said in a blogpost on Wednesday.
  • (bit.ly/2lxYeFZ)In January, a 14-year-old foster child in Florida broadcast her suicide reportedly on Facebook Live, according to the New York Post.
  • Facebook is already using artificial intelligence to monitor offensive material in live video streams. The company said on Wednesday that the updated tools would give an option to users watching a live video to reach out to the person directly and report the video to Facebook.
  • Facebook Inc (FB.O) will also provide resources, which include reaching out to a friend and contacting a help line, to the user reporting the live video.Suicide is the second-leading cause of death for 15-29 year olds.
  • Suicide rates jumped 24 percent in the United States between 1999 and 2014 after a period of nearly consistent decline, according to a National Center for Health Statistics study.

Artificial Intelligence: Removing The Human From Fintech

Artificial intelligence: Removing the human from fintech

  • News announced this week also suggests that artificial intelligence will become a central part of anything a technology organisation will do in the future.
  • Chief technology officer Paul Daugherty highlighted that “AI is poised to transform business in ways we’ve not seen since the impact of computer technology in the late 20th century.”
  • The UK government’s AI research will be led by Benevolent Tech’s CEO Jérôme Pesenti who explored how despite the “negative hype” around artificial intelligence, it has the ability to create jobs and transform industries.
  • This seems a little too optimistic to me as perhaps, AI will create new jobs, but it will remove people from careers that they know how to do and it will take time, years or decades in fact, for those people to learn new skills and then take on the jobs that artificial intelligence has ‘created’.
  • On the other hand, the millennial generation seem to welcome and encourage new technology – cellphone apps are a perfect example of how quickly new systems can enter the marketplace, so it could be said that this is the area in which AI could potentially blossom.

As I’m sure many in the technology industry have thought today, there should have been a way to avoid the Oscars Envelopegate. But, is artificial intelligence the answer to all of our human error problems?

  • The network tries to predict next action of the drawing grammar.
  • Works like an Lindenmayer interpreter running by a neural network which is a non-deterministic way to evaluate that kind of self-rewriting systems.
  • The network has 35 inputs consist the last 5 operations of the grammar and 7 output variables that represents a single action character.
  • If you want to improve or restructure it in a different way, please don’t hesitate to send a pull request.

How artificial intelligence could design your next car

How #ArtificialIntelligence could design your next car #AI #machinelearning #ML #tech

  • Artificial intelligence is set to take a key role in the design and engineering of new cars, dreaming up lighter, stronger and more complex structures than humans can envision.
  • Hack Rod, a team of designers, engineers, geeks, Hollywood insiders and stunt drivers is working on a way to harness the power of artificial intelligence in tandem with powerful design software produced by Autodesk.
  • Mike Geyer, Autodesk’s director of evangelism and emerging technology, says the generative design software uses cloud computing systems to create the best geometric shapes for any given project.
  • The next Hack Rod will more closely follow the computer’s ideal design by using 3D printing to realise Dreamcatcher’s vision for a lightweight sports car chassis.
  • Geyer says the team will then cloak it in carbon-fibre bodywork impregnated with electronic sensors that collect complex data surrounding the vehicle’s performance, which will then be fed back into the computer’s design process.

Meet the sports car imagined by computers.
