Artificial Intelligence Might Run the World Better Than Humans Do

Artificial Intelligence Might Run the World Better Than Humans Do

  • Richard Dawkins posits an interesting idea, or at the very least a premise to a good science-fiction novel… – – When we come to artificial intelligence and the possibility of their becoming conscious we reach a profound philosophical difficulty.
  • I am a philosophical naturalist.
  • It hasn’t been done yet, we’re probably quite a long way away from it, but I see no reason why in the future we shouldn’t reach the point where a human made robot is capable of consciousness and of feeling pain.
  • We can feel pain, why shouldn’t they?

Will A.I. take us over, and one day look back on this time period as the dawn of their civilization? Richard Dawkins posits an interesting idea, or at the very least a premise to a good science-fiction novel…
When we come to artificial intelligence and the possibility of their becoming conscious we reach a profound philosophical difficulty. I am a philosophical naturalist. I am committed to the view that there’s nothing in our brains that violates the laws of physics, there’s nothing that could not in principle be reproduced in technology. It hasn’t been done yet, we’re probably quite a long way away from it, but I see no reason why in the future we shouldn’t reach the point where a human made robot is capable of consciousness and of feeling pain. We can feel pain, why shouldn’t they?

In the discussion, Musk also gave some thoughts on North Korea’s latest nuclear experiments.

  • NK launching a nuclear missile would be suicide for their leadership, as SK, US and China wd invade and end the regime immediately

Should be low on our list of concerns for civilizational existential risk.

Stephen Hawking Finally Revealed His Plan for Preventing an AI Apocalypse

Stephen Hawking Finally Revealed His Plan for Preventing an #AI Apocalypse via @Futurism

  • Hawking has expressed his opinions about topics that range from extraterrestrial life to artificial intelligence (AI), and of the latter, he has serious misgivings.
  • But like many other scientists and thinkers in today’s world, Hawking is concerned that the rise of AI is bringing with it various negative side effects.
  • He’s also worried that AI may take over the world or, worse yet, end it.
  • Our best bet against this AI uprising, he now tells The Times, is the creation of “some form of world government” that could control the technology.
  • Those institutions, such as the Partnership on AI and the Ethics and Governance of Artificial Intelligence Fund (or AI Fund), have begun developing guidelines or frameworks for developing AI more conscientiously.

This would prevent tech from destroying humanity.
