Chinese firms fight to lure top artificial intelligence talent from Silicon Valley

Chinese firms fight to lure top artificial intelligence talent from Silicon Valley

  • Before each job interview, Alex Ren offers the following advice to his clients to ensure their success: “Be humble and appreciate the opportunity to fully demonstrate your strength and what you can offer”.
  • The advice is not for potential employees.
  • Rather, it is for Chinese technology companies trying to hire top-tier Silicon Valley talent in artificial intelligence (AI) in competition with the likes of Alphabet, Uber Technologies and Facebook.
  • “Chinese companies are obsessed with hiring Silicon Valley talent because winning talent here is like reaching the commanding heights of the AI battlefield,” said Ren, founder of TalentSeer, a San Francisco-based headhunting company focused on AI expert recruitment.

IBM’s Project Intu Offers Developers Unprecedented Access to its Watson A.I.

  • Project Intu could help IBM make sure those developers choose Watson.
  • If people take advantage of this program, Watson could make sure their supposedly “smart” products aren’t quite as elementary as they are now.
  • Watson is about to get a lot busier .
  • Watson has already been used to do everything from enable robot concierges to help a professor at Georgia Tech manage the online forums of his A.I. course.
  • The question is whether those groups will tap Watson, Alexa, Google’s DeepMind, or some other service to provide those A.I. capabilities.

IBM’s Project Intu will make the Watson A.I. more available to developers of robots, Internet of Things products, and more.

The Partnership On AI Is What We Need

Why The #PartnershipOnAI Is What We Need @BigCloudTeam #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #TechNews

  • Home > What We Think > The Partnership on AI Is Exactly What We Need
  • It’s important to stop deliberating if AI is inherently good or evil and focus on the values, aims and beliefs of the companies and individuals working on this technology.
  • Too often we get caught up in the rhetoric of whether AI is good or bad, and not how humans and AI can work together.
  • It’s undeniable that AI is set to change the way the world works, so it’s a good thing to see companies prioritizing progress before competition and coming together to form this partnership.
  • The partnership is much more than diffusing public concerns.

White hat hacker #AI bots prepare for DARPA's DEF CON cyber brawl #cybersecurity #infosec

  • No team even came close to finding and fixing them all, but by combining the best results from each team, the test code was 100 per cent patched by the end of the competition.
  • In qualifying heats last year, 131 pieces of software were examined by AI rivals to find 590 software flaws that DARPA knew about.
  • Software must automatically find bugs in rival code.
  • The agency has put up $2m in prize money in the unlikely event of a team building a system that can not only find flaws but write its own patches and deploy them without crashing.
  • Once the competition is over all, the teams’ code – and DARPA’s test code – will be put online in perpetuity under an open-source license.
